Best Spots for Dog Photography in Fresno & Beyond

Discover the Best Scenes for Pet Portraits

If you’re a dog parent in the Central Valley looking to book a pet photography session, one of the first questions that comes up is: Where should we go?

You might be imagining golden fields, forest trails, or a cozy setting where your dog feels relaxed and seen. The truth is, the best location depends on your dog’s personality, your style, and how you want to remember this chapter of life together.

After photographing dozens of dogs across Fresno and the surrounding areas, I’ve gathered a list of my favorite dog-friendly spots that create stunning backdrops β€” and most importantly, give your pup the space to shine.

Urban Parks and Open Fields

Woodward Park

Open space, shady trees, and natural paths make Woodward one of the most versatile and familiar options for dog parents. It’s great for dogs who love exploring but need room to decompress between shots.

Woodward Park is a year-round option as the magestic redwoods make for a gorgeous backdrop any time of year.

Cottonwood Park

Especially enchanting in the fall, Cottonwood Park transforms with shades of yellow and orange. It’s a cozy reminder of chilly evenings and warm hot chocolate, making it a picturesque spot for capturing the season with your pet.  Head out during golden hour for some gorgeous back-lit light.

Rustic Trails & Rolling Hills

Tesoro Viejo

Neutral tones, rustic fencing, and wide trails give this location a golden-hour glow. Perfect for dogs who love to roam a bit and don’t mind a short stroll. If you are looking for a more scenic hike, you can take the trail down to the river.
Bonus: Wildflowers often bloom here in early spring, adding a burst of seasonal color.

Blossom Trail (Seasonal)

In February to early March, the blossom-lined orchards create a dreamy, pastel wonderland. The window is short but magical. Celebrated throughout the Central Valley, the blossoming trees create a magical landscape. Follow the trail map for a scenic drive and make a stop to capture your dog’s face among the blossoms.  Reminder- please respect the natural beauty and clean up after your photo session.

I usually do Blossom sessions so be sure to keep a look out for those announcements if this is spot you’ve been dreaming of!

Pin Cushion Trail - Friant

If you can handle a strenuous but short hike up the hill, Pin Cushion trail is one of my favorites hikes for great views and beautiful sunsets for the ultimate backdrop for epic shots.  Located near Millerton Lake, it’s a short drive to get there from Fresno or Clovis.

Raptor and Aspen were ready for our adventure pet portrait session and were eager to join us up the hill. Both pet parents chose to create a keepsake for their homes in a large metal print that highlights the vibrance in these images.

Our work here was even highlighted in a Redfin article about top things to do in Fresno! Go check it out!

Lakeside Trails and Mountain Escapes

Pine Flat Lake

Rather than photographing directly by the lake, we use the surrounding trails that offer sweeping views, golden tones, and wide open space for dogs to explore and express themselves.
In early spring, wildflowers may bloom along the hills here β€” it’s a stunning seasonal touch.

Shaver Lake

This mountain location offers cooler temps, and make it a great location during our hot Summer months. We get forest textures and beach access with lake views β€” perfect for adventurous dogs and humans alike.

Bald Mountain Trail

Bald Mountain is especially stunning, but keep in mind it’s only accessible via off-road trails. There’s an easier route that most vehicles can handle, but it’s best suited for OHV-loving dog parents who want a more remote and wild session experience.

Yosemite National Park

If you’re ready for the ultimate session experience, there’s nothing quite like Yosemite. Towering cliffs, golden meadows, waterfalls, and open trails create a truly unforgettable backdrop.
We recommend sunrise sessions β€” the early light is magical, and it’s the best way to avoid crowds while soaking in the quiet beauty of the park. This is a session for dog parents who want more than photos β€” they want a moment.

Beaches and Coastal Vibes

Yes, we travel! The Central Coast is perfect for dogs who love to run free and splash in the surf. These sessions are loose, joyful, and full of movement. Bonus: they make epic wall art.

Local and Dog-Friendly

Breweries and wineries can be surprisingly beautiful backdrops β€” laid-back, full of personality, and perfect for casual, connection-based portraits. We’ve photographed at Crow and Wolf, 3 Oaks Vineyard, and Cedar View Winery and are always open to other local favorites. If you love beer or wine and your dog is the ultimate patio pup, this might be the perfect match.
